Mindfulness Meditation
“Breathing in, I calm my body, breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment, I know this is a wonderful moment.”
Thirty years of practice
I have practised different forms of meditation for over thirty years. My own practice is rooted in Insight Meditation, also known as Vipassana, which is a practical way of paying attention to your experience with more calm, honesty and clarity.
In practice, this means learning how to notice what is going on inside you without rushing to judge it, fix it or push it away. You might notice your breathing, physical sensations, thoughts, feelings or patterns of reaction. Over time, this can help you understand yourself better and create more space between what happens and how you respond.
This kind of meditation can support greater self-awareness, emotional balance, focus and compassion. It is not about emptying the mind or getting meditation “right”. It is about gently returning your attention, again and again, to the present moment.
The basic skills are straightforward: making a little time to practise, noticing what is happening in the present moment, and bringing your attention back when the mind wanders. Like any skill, it becomes easier with regular practice.
A simple way to train your attention
With regular practice, it can help you feel calmer, think more clearly and respond to everyday situations with more steadiness.
Regular practice can help reduce stress and support the body’s natural ability to settle. Many people find they feel less caught in “fight or flight” and more able to pause before reacting.
Mindfulness is simply about noticing where your attention is, and gently bringing it back to the present moment.
No previous experience needed
This is for anyone who feels stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, constantly busy, or simply in need of more calm and steadiness in everyday life. You do not need any previous experience of meditation, and you do not need to be able to “switch off” your thoughts. Together, we start simply and practically, helping you build a gentle practice that can support clearer thinking, better sleep, improved wellbeing and a greater ability to pause before reacting.
I offer mindfulness meditation in individual sessions, small groups and as part of facilitated spiritual wellness retreats. If you would like to feel calmer, more present and better equipped to meet life’s demands, this may be a supportive place to begin.
